Satoru Iwata passed away at the age of 55 on July 11, 2015.
It’s difficult to express in one short blog post just how much of an influence Satoru Iwata had on the video game industry. When sales and consumer confidence were at their lowest, Nintendo swooped and and rescued the industry. Nintendo can be credited with essentially building the modern video game industry into what it is today – a behemoth that rivals (or surpasses?) Hollywood in dollars earned.
More so than just business success, he ultimately had an impact on popular culture. Along with Shigeru Miyamoto, he was responsible for the creation of most of the industry’s most beloved characters.
