Star Trek the Next Generation: The Transinium Challenge (1990)

A rare Star Trek the Next Generation point and click adventure.

This game was developed by Trans Fiction Systems and published by Simon and Shuster, the combo behind some of the Star Trek text adventure games. This one is a point and click graphic adventure, and the first to be based on Star Trek the Next Generation. The cover art isn’t great, but seems to place the action between the first and second seasons, as Worf and Geordi have the beige uniforms, but Riker still doesn’t have the beard. The graphics are very low resolution but take advantage of digitization of video from the show.

This game is extremely rare. For a long time, many PC game collectors weren’t sure whether or not it actually existed, or even exactly what it was called. I knew it existed, because I saw it on the shelf at Electronics Boutique back in the day, but didn’t buy it. It was a choice between this game or something else, and I remember my Dad didn’t want this one because of the bad graphics. Luckily, I eventually found it in the wild.
